A very brief introduction for starters...

 You don't need to know everything about me right now... you'll figure some of that stuff out through my posts. 

Anyway, it is helpful for you to know my name- It is Gaynor- I will turn 50 in July next year (2024) and I live in a place 5000 km from my home country. I work in a Senior position in education, and I am married with two amazing sons, who are both in Secondary school. 

I suppose I should include a photo of myself too.... 

I am going to use this one..... firstly because I think my hair looks cool, but also cos it's non- committal!! How I look is not particularly important at this point!


Oh, by the way, I have been married 16 years today- it's my anniversary- that's not particularly important at this point either but since it is a significant event for me, I thought I would share that with you anyway!

Magical mornings

The morning is arguably my favourite time of the day. Only at the weekends though! I really struggle with the 5:50 am wake up calls during my working week and often feel shattered by the end of the working day. However, they are so much more manageable without the hangovers! Not that I would ever drink heavily the night before a work day but I have noticed in recent years, that if I have a heavy Saturday, it takes me until at least Tuesday to feel normal. Monday mornings were horrible.... I would still feel so tired, sluggish, demotivated, and actually slightly poisoned! At what point do 3-day hangovers catch up with us? Why was this not a thing when I was in my 20s? Why did no one WARN us of this?  Anyway, back to my love of mornings... Why have I decided to start a blog...??

I have always enjoyed writing stuff down . I always had a diary as a teenager and various penpals- usually ones who loved Duran Duran, like me! I wasn't particularly amazing at English at school (got a B in both Lang and Lit) but I have always had awesome handwriting! Recording information is the best way to keep me organised . I have lists for all kinds of stuff; 'To Do' stuff at work, shopping lists, things I want to do in Dubai, my finances, holiday itineraries, ideas that I want to explore.... I also really like writing down how I feel- it helps me process stuff.... and I have found recently, that committing something to paper (or device) keeps me accountable in all sorts of ways; exercising, budgeting, counting calories and most recently, alcohol- free days! Technology is amazing- there's an app for flipping everything these days! I even track my "monthly" symptoms to see if there are patterns. A humbling but rewarding experience

  Not many people see this side of Dubai . Yes, this is Dubai- the same city that has the Burj Khalifa and the biggest, best and most luxurious of everything in the world. But not all that glitters is gold. I  was invited on to a yacht today with a good friend. That is SO Dubai - this usually involves copious amounts of alcohol and a sore head tomorrow- but I didn't take up the offer as I really wanted to go and distribute the Iftar meals in the labour camp.  I said during my introduction page that I wasn't going to tell you everything about me and that you would figure that out. I have recently been digging deep to unearth my core values. I have discovered that I love giving back and helping those less fortunate more than I have ever given myself the opportunity to realise.  Ramadan is just over halfway through .
